Anne Brigman Images range from
9 ¾ x 7 5/8 inches with the size of mounts at 18 x 14 ½ inches Image condition, sharp

Series of:
Unidentified woman breast feeding a child and others signed in pencil and one in ink by Anne Brigman. Anne Brigman (1869-1950).
Best known for her photographs nudes in nature, Brigman was also an exceptional studio photographer often making portraits
of her Bohemian friends in the San Francisco Bay area. She was one of the original members of the Photo-Secession
movement in the early 1900s and exhibited extensively during this time. Alfred Stieglitz championed her
work with exhibitions at his gallery 291 as well as included her works in three issues of Camera Work. Unlike
many of her contemporaries, Brigman did not engage in commercial work so her pictorials, images were always an expression
of her artistic endeavors rather than commissions for clients. We are not sure that they may
have been exhibited at some time or never exhibited and/or were in a private collection, much reseach to this is being
done now on the Beeler estate where found. Up until 1911 Brigman went by the first name Annie. Little about
me can be viewed at randy30.com, I've collected early photography for 20 years, many of my 1840s 1870s images on display at
the Cincinnati Museum and in private collections of renowned collectors whom I cannot voice here but will reference to me
if needed. As with images published in the Daguerreian Society Early Photography Symposium Catalog. When I purchased these
12, I knew of the Brigman name but did not know of her great work, since I've had the pleasure of meeting historians with
regards to this collection and now know how important any Brigman find can be. They may not be of her renowned works but indeed
they are of her taking. An insight to her other side and a personal touch only she can provide. And if you don't know her
or her photography please see any major auction house past live auctions.
Collection can be viewed for inspection during this auction in Kewaunee WI 54216, please call for an appointment.
